A very good friend I was speaking to on the phone the other evening told me what happened to him whilst he was Plane-Spotting at Heathrow Airport last week.
He enjoys photography, and there he was, minding his own buisiness, enjoying his innocent hobby, snapping pictures of Jets taking off and landing at the Airport. He's been there for a while when he was approached by three big police officers, demanding to know why he was taking photos.
They advised him that he was to be questioned under the "Prevention of Terrorism Act", and proceeded to interrogate him as to why he was taking pictures of Airoplanes.
However, they finally accepted his explanation and did not take the matter any further. He wasn't arrested, and none of his equipment was confiscated.
This would not have happened a few years ago, it seems now that even totally innocent pastimes like plane-spotting have become suspect.
On a slightly different note, I was reading in a recent copy of the "Railway Magazine" about some Railway Enthusiasts who were stopped from photographing trains within station areas.
Just what type of country are we now living in?
